Construction has started on a new state of the art Wellness Centre in Denton, Greater Manchester, following the award of planning permission in the summer of 2018, for which i-Transport LLP played a key role, preparing the Transport Assessment and providing access, layout and servicing advice. Located adjacent to the A57 and the M57 – two of the key routes in the area – traffic impact was a key concern.
The centrepiece of the centre – a joint venture between Tameside Council and Network Space – will be an eight-lane, 25m competition swimming pool with room for 150 spectators, while it will also include a learner pool, a spa area, fitness suite and ten-pin bowling alley. Community facilities will also be provided and will include meeting rooms, a soft play area and multi-use studio spaces. The roof space is to house a sensory garden which will also be used for a pop-up cinema / theatre and open air exercise space.
The development, which is expected to be completed in spring 2020, is located on the former Oldham Batteries site and is part of Tameside Council’s £20m pledge to improve the provision of sports and leisure facilities across Tameside.
