i-Transport LLP was pleased to assist with securing expansion of Hounslow Heath Junior School, south of Hounslow West station, where an additional 210 pupil places will be provided in a new three storey teaching block. This is further to i-Transport’s initial Phase 1 work where three new classrooms were granted planning permission in 2015 for an additional 90 pupil places. On completion of Phase 2, there will have been a total increase of 300 pupil spaces in an area of significant demand.
i-Transport LLP produced a comprehensive Transport Assessment to support a planning application and successfully negotiated with the London Borough of Hounslow and Transport for London to ensure the school expansion could be delivered. The planning application was approved in January 2017.
A combination of cycle and scooter parking will ensure the opportunities for sustainable travel to and from the school can be taken up by both pupils and staff. As the retained transport consultant, the sustainability of the site will be supported by a new School Travel Plan to be prepared by i-Transport LLP.
Jamie Narborough, Consultant in the London office noted “With ever growing demand for school places within boroughs across London, it is paramount that full assessments of the impacts of school expansions on local transport networks are fully understood. Having worked on the expansion of more than 20 other schools within the London Borough of Hounslow, as well as numerous other educational sites across London, i-Transport LLP are well placed to work closely with local boroughs and Transport for London to assist in addressing demand in a sustainable and positive way, as was demonstrated here”.
